(Almost) everyone knows the Three Peaks, the Paternsattel is often like the Stachus in Munich, and a picture of the "Sesto Sundial" adorns every Dolomite calendar. The Cadin peaks in the far southwest of the Sesto Dolomites are rather (stone) peripheral figures. That doesn't matter at all, the hiker is happy when there are not so many people on his route. And in this case it easily deserves its three stars! The Sentiero Bonacossa traverses the many-peaked, bizarre Cadini forest, runs from cranny to cranny and thus conveys new, fascinating images again and again. The "Three Peaks" then deliver the brilliant final image in person - wow! Start from the hotel by car or public bus in the direction of Dobbiaco and from there turn left in the direction of Cortina to Misurina to the Col de Varda chairlift. The big Cadini tour starts at the Col de Varda lift station (2115 m). Ascend on a clear trail over the Grave di Misurina, then through a sandy gully (steps, wire ropes) quite steeply to the Forcella di Misurina (approx. 2370 m). Behind it, descend over scree and scree, around a rocky corner and into the snow cirque (Ciadin de la Neve). The "Bonacossa path" crosses the path coming up from Misurina and climbs in a steep zig-zag towards the gully interposed between Torre del Diavolo and Northwest Cadin Peak. A rock bar is easily overcome with the help of solid belays (wire ropes, ladders), then the track leads into the Forcella del Diavolo (approx. 2480 m). Beyond the saddle, descend in the scree into the shady cirque angle (snow until midsummer), under the west face of the Cima Cadin Nord-Ovest (2726 m) and over a harmless rock step up to the Rifugio Fonda Savio (2367 m) in a beautiful location on the Passo dei Toce. Behind the hospitable house, the "Sentiero Bonacossa" leads over a steep rock ramp (wire ropes) down into the innermost cirque floor of the Val de la Cianpedele, where the "Durissini Climb" (see Tour 19) branches off. Out of the valley and flat into the Forcella de Rinbianco (2176 m). From the hollow you can descend to the left to Lake Misurina; the continuation of the "Bonacossa trail" heads - descending briefly - for a striking, quite exposed horizontal band in the eastern slope of the Cima Ciadin de Rinbianco (2402 m). It leads into a steep, roofed intersection. With the help of ladders and wire ropes, climb a good fifty metres, then turn right over a scree slope onto a scree band. It crosses a few rocky angles and finally leads to the ridge, where you suddenly see the Drei Zinnen in front of you. You can also see the path that continues; it follows the former war paths on the Cianpedele ridge in a gentle up and down. You can bypass an approximately 25m long tunnel on the left. From the shallow depression of the Forcella Longeres (2288 m) finally up to the Rifugio Auronzo (2320 m) at the end of the "Drei-Zinne-Straße" (bus). Those who want to reach Lake Misurina, however, can save themselves the diversions and descend from the Longeres saddle to the asphalt road without a trail. Continue downhill, shortening its wide loops, until the marked path turns off to the left. With a small counter-climb under the rocks of the col de le Bisse (2221 m) and down in light forest to the bottom at the entrance to the Rinbianco cirque. On a sandy track to the "Three Peaks Road", which you follow - past the idyllic Lago d'Antorno (1866 m) - to Camping Misurina. Here turn left to the Albergo Miralago and take the pretty path along the eastern shore of Lake Misurina back to the valley station of the Col-de-Varda chairlift and back to the hotel by car or public bus to Sesto/Moos.
