In contrast to the Außergsell, the Innergsell also offers a view of the rocky backdrop of the Fischlein Valley, and this naturally makes it a particularly popular hiking destination. From the high vantage point you have a view of the famous Dolomite scenery from the Sesto Croda Rossa ( Zehner, 2,965 m ) over the Elfer ( 3,092 m) to the Zwölfer ( 3,094 m), which strikingly closes the Bachern valley in the south. To the left of it, the Hochleist (2,413 m) is a real "impostor" on the ascent to the Zsigmondyhütte; from the Innergesell, it is merely the stem of the three-thousand-metre peak. The narrow Sentinellascharte ( 2,717 m) between the Rotwand and the Elfer is also clearly visible, and those with binoculars can even follow the bold course of the "Alpinisteig" through the northern falls to the mighty scree terrace in the western flank of the Elfer. The hike to the Innergesell starts directly from the hotel and leads from the centre of Sesto ( 1,316 m) across the stream, then uphill across meadows to the mouth of the steep Gsellgraben. At the signposted junction (1,452 m) keep left (straight on to the Außergesell) and follow the forest path, which climbs in loops along the northern flank of the Innergesell. There is hardly any view, only towards the summit ridge does the forest clear and the first peaks appear. All the more surprising, then, the atmospheric view from the summit ridge of the Innergesell, which is "adorned" by some dilapidated war buildings. The way back first leads east down to a lightly wooded ridge (Ramischköfel, 1,913 m), after a short traverse of the slope on a ridge, steeply descending in switchbacks into the Bärisbach ditch. Continue downhill in the forest, crossing the torrent twice. At the edge of the Fischleinboden, you come across the "Waldweg Fischleintal". It leads out flat and mostly shaded back to the hotel in Moos.

Great Gesellrunde

Of course you can also cross both "Gsellen" as part of a large hiking tour, the most beautiful from the Innerfeldtal to the Fischleintal. Ascent from Sesto to the Innerfeldtal, then via the Steinalpe to the saddle in the back of the Außergsell and on to the Innergsell. Descent and return as described. Total walking time about 6 ½ hours.
