In our time, which is always looking for a quick thrill, it has long become fashionable to drive up to the Rifugio Auronzo (2,320 m) to experience the ultimate view of the north faces of the Three Peaks just three quarters of an hour later. Connoisseurs prefer a gradual approach to the natural wonder, slowly, step by step: the giant teeth of main dolomite grow higher and higher into the blue sky, and later - the excursionists have long since had their coffee and cake - you sit on the grassy ridge in front of the pinnacle head and spend the afternoon dreaming, looking, marvelling: the magic of the mountains. Start from the hotel by car or by public bus to Dobbiaco and from there turn left in the direction of Cortina to the large hikers' car park at Hotel Drei Zinnenblick (1,405 m). From there the sandy road leads first flat, then uphill into the Rienztal valley. The Three Peaks are the first eye-catcher, but then they disappear behind their rocky projection. You pass the mouth of the Ribianco valley; a little further on, the gravel road becomes a hiking trail that climbs through the Val Rinbon, overcomes a rocky terrain step and finally gains the stately Drei Zinnen hut (2,405 m) at Toblinger Riedl in a few loops. On the large terrace you can enjoy a South Tyrolean snack and the famous Drei-Zinnen show. The hiker also enjoys this view when crossing the Lange Alm: briefly downhill on the way there, then left at the fork in the path on the Rienzboden and in a gentle up and down to Col Forcellina (2,232 m), where a few lake eyes twinkle between stones and sparse alpine greenery. Now climb up to the grassy Zinnenkopf. A wonderful place to rest and watch; the vertical north walls of the Drei Zinnen with their enormous roofs are particularly beautiful in the late afternoon light. Follow the well-trodden path flatly over to the Forcela de l'Col de Mezo ( 2,315 m), where path 108 leaves on the right. It descends in hairpin bends into the Val de l'Àrghena and turns south to the Three Peaks Road. At Malga Rinbianco (1,841 m) turn right and through the valley of the same name out to the black Rienz. Now left on the sandy road back to the starting point of the loop.
