Hikers can expect no great effort on this tour; the chairlift takes care of the "ascent" to Col de Varda (2,115 m), and on the way there and back there are only about 200 metres of altitude difference each - a pleasure. But there is a lot of view, on the way there especially of the southeast of the Dolomites, the massive rock bastion of the Sorapis, the Antelo and the high, lonely ridges of the Marmarole; on the way back the Cristallo is the eye-catcher. And to the left of the mighty three-thousand-metre peak, above the wooded depression of the Passo Tre Croci, even the Marmolada appears with its firn shield. Take the bus from Moos in the direction of Dobbiaco and from there continue in the direction of Cortina to Lake Misurina. From the lift station at Col de Varda (2,115 m), the route first goes downhill; you go around the rocky vantage point (2,174 m) and then enter the sparse mountain forest. At the fork below the Col del Viero, keep to the left and follow the wide cart track that climbs a little steeply to the Forcella Maraia (2,101 m). On the left, just above the pass, is the Rifugio Città di Carpi (2,110m). Splendid view of the wild rocky crags of the Cadini; the Zwölfer (3,094 m) stands mightily above the deeply cut Val d'Onge. On the outward route back to the fork below the Col de Varda and on the gravel track with a beautiful view of the Cristallo massif down to the lift station at Lake Misurina and by bus back to Sesto/Moos to the Hotel Alpenblick.

Pale di Menotte

From the Rifugio Città di Carpi it is only a stone's throw to the broad ridge of the Pale di Menotte (2,248 m). Access is via a marked trail with a short, less difficult secured passage (wire ropes) in a rocky western slope. The flattened ridge offers an atmospheric panoramic view, ¾ h from the Carpi hut.
