Down to Fischlein Valley

Start from the top

  • Start: Hotel Alpenblick
  • Train/bus: bus Sexten-Innichen-Toblach, in direction Fischlein Valley
  • Time of walk: 3h
  • Huts: Rudi-Hut, Rotwandwiesen-Hut, Talschluss-Hut;
  • Map: KOMPASS no 625

The Rotwand meadows look mainly to the north, across the Sextental valley to the Helm, but the most beautiful Dolomite peaks are to the west and south. So many hike into the valley, which is possible on beautiful slope paths. From the Anderteralpe, a steep path leads down to the Talschlusshütte, where you can see (almost) the entire Sextner mountain range: Dreischusterspitze ( 3,145 m ), Einser ( 2,698 m), Zwölfer ( 3,094 m ) and Elfer ( 3,092 m ). On the way back to Moos you will often turn around, take another look at the light grey pinnacles - and be amazed: what a wonderland! From the hotel, we walk to the lift station of the Rotwandwiesen cable car and take it to the Rotwandwiesen mountain station (1,914 m) - past the Rudihütte - briefly downhill, then uphill on a wide meadow path to a path spider (1,950 m; signs). Now turn right and walk around the foothills of the Rotwandköpfe. Continue climbing along their western flank to a junction (left to the Rotwand;) and with a wonderful view into the Karwinkel above the Anderteralm. This is where the descent path (sign) joins; it leads downhill into the alpine pasture area and then through mountain pines and sparse forest steeply down to the head of the valley with the much-visited hut. Walk along the sandy road over the Fischleinboden out of the valley to the large car park at the Dolomitenhof (1,454 m). Now left of the Fischleinbach stream on the road back to the hotel in Moos.

Alternative:

Those who shy away from the steep descent to the Talschlusshütte can hike along the western flank of the Rotwandköpfe: Three parallel paths can be combined to form small, but very scenic rounds. They each lead back to the Rotwand meadows; walking time about 2 hours. From the lift station you can descend on marked paths westwards to the Dolomitenhof (1,454 m) in the Fischlein valley, northwards to Bad Moos ( 1,353 m), 1 or 1 ¼ hours.
