If you don't want to climb the famous trident right away (climbing tour!), you should at least hike around it. This is easy to do on well-marked paths and provides unique impressions of the Sesto mountains and their showpiece - and if you don't just want to take pictures of stones, you are guaranteed to get some original motifs in front of your lens. The path to the Paternsattel is something like an alpine fashion catwalk: pop and kitsch, loden and lycra, young and old. At the top of the saddle there's a great view of the Three Peaks, and maybe even a few climbers doing their daring gymnastic exercises high up in the rock. Click! Click! From the hotel, take the car or the public bus in the direction of Dobbiaco and from there in the direction of Cortina to the Auronzo Hut (sign Three Peaks). From the large car park on the Three Peaks road, a former wartime road leads under the southern walls of the Three Peaks - past the Capella degli Alpini - over to the Rifugio Lavaredo (2,344 m) . It offers a view across the Ansiei Valley to the lonely Marmarole Group; to the south are the bizarre peaks of the Cadini. At the top of the Paternsattel (2,454 m), the Three Peaks are of course the absolute eye-catcher; on the way over to the Drei-Zinnen-Hütte (2744 m), one occasionally looks to the right, up into the west face of the Paternkofel (2,744 mm). On its north ridge, not far from the refuge, is the bold rock sculpture of the "Frankfurter Würstl". At Toblinger Riedl, a few hands of the famous "Sesto Sundial" can be seen above the Bödenalpe: Rotwand, Elfer, Zwölfer, Einser. The trail continues in a few loops down to Rienzboden, then in front of the north walls of the Three Peaks over the Lange Alm. Past the pools at Col Forcellina (2,232 m) and up to a grassy ridge, from where you can enjoy a last great view (evening!) of the stone monument. Over to the Forcela de l'Col de Mezo (2,315 m) and with a view of Cadini, Sorapis and Cristallo back to the Rifugio Auronzo. From there it's back to Sesto/Moos by car or public bus.
