You only need to take a look at the Bacherntal valley to know why the Zsigmondy Hut is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Sesto: the Zwölferkofel (3,094 m), unquestionably one of the most beautiful mountain shapes in the entire Dolomites, a mighty yet elegant triangle of rock, towers over you. The three-thousand-metre peak presents itself quite differently from the west, for example from the path to the Paternsattel. From this perspective, it shows its immense mass, the high, over one kilometre long rocky ridge that stretches south to the Cima d' Auronzo ( 2,914 m). The second highest peak in Sesto was first climbed by Michl and Johann Innerkofler in 1874. On the hike from Fischleinboden to the Zsigmondy Hut, however, another "peak" stands in the way of the Zwölfer: the Hochleist (2,413 m), with its (seemingly) sky-high bow rock, initially an eye-catcher. Gradually, however, the conditions are set right and the mighty tower becomes a flat ridge that only just reaches the rocky foot of the Zwölfer. The refuge - officially the Zsigmondy-Comici Hut - is named after two great mountaineers. The Viennese Emil Zsigmondy was one of the first guideless climbers in the Alps, Emilio Comici probably the most famous Italian climber of the 1930s; in 1933 he succeeded (together with the Dimai brothers) in climbing the north face of the Große Zinne - a milestone in the history of alpinism. From the church in Moos, take the bus to the Fischleinboden car park (1,454 m). From there you first hike across the flat, only lightly wooded Fischleinboden to the Talschlusshütte (1,526 m) . Pass the hut and climb to the end of the road, then continue on a rough path to the fork at the entrance to the Altensteiner Tal. Here keep left (sign) over a mountain pine slope to the rocky foot of the Einser (2,698 m), then high above the ditch of the Bachernbach stream into the valley, where the rocky scenery unfolds ever more impressively. Above a rocky step, the Zwölfer emerges impressively from the "shadow" of the Hochleist (nice resting place). Finally, a few loops up the scree slope to the Zsigmondy Hut (2,224 m). Descent on the ascent path.
