Excursion above the Misurina-Lake

The only base within the Cadini group is the Rifugio Fondo Savio ( 2,367 m) at Passo dei Toci - a rewarding hiking destination, well suited to give an impression of the fascinating wealth of forms of the "mini Dolomites" above Lake Misurina. And if that is not enough, you can continue the tour via the "Sentiero Bonacossa" (see tour 18) or climb the north-eastern Cadini peak (see tour 17). By car or public bus, head in the direction of Dobbiaco and from there continue in the direction of Cortina until you reach Camping Misurina. From the Misurina campsite (1757 m) follow the busy "Three Peaks Road" over the first two serpentines (can be shortened) to the fork in a narrow road (sign "Fonda Savio"). It leads to the right in the forest to the Pian degli Spiriti (1896 m). In daylight, you will hardly encounter any (mountain) ghosts here, rather the hut owner who is loading his material cable car. The trail climbs in a few loops through the Toce cirque, overcoming a striking terrain step. To the left, the jagged rocky ridge culminating in Torre Wundt (2517 m) rises, and the refuge appears in the background of the valley. Now continue uphill along the left edge of the Ciadin di Toce and finally over a small rock step (belays). From the sunny terrace of the Rif. Fonda Savio (2367 m) you can enjoy a thrilling view of the bizarre rocky scenery of the snow cirque (Ciadin del Nevaio) with the highest Cadini mountain, the Cima Cadin di San Lucano (2839 m). The absolute summit prominence, however, is to the north: the Three Peaks (2999 m), this time from a less familiar angle. They are joined to the right by other well-known peaks of the Sesto Dolomites: Paternkofel (2744 m), Sextner Rotwand (2965 m), Elfer (3092 m), Zwölferkofel (3094 m). Those who do not wish to continue the tour via the "Sentiero Bonacossa" descend on the ascent path and return to Sesto/Moos to the Hotel Alpenblick.
