On the steps of the war
Like a rock castle, the Toblinger Knoten rises up into the blue sky northwest of the Drei-Zinnen-Hütte, just 200 metres high but completely free-standing - an ideal lookout. Of course, this did not escape the notice of the military, and so the "knot" near the front was fortified during the First World War. A boldly constructed ladder climb ran through its north-facing chimneys, some remnants of which can still be seen. At the end of the 1970s, "Dolomitenfreunde" reconstructed this route, replacing the rotten wood with solid iron ladders. In combination with the "Feldkurat-Hosp-Steig", which has also been made safe, this offers the possibility of an exciting traverse of the rocky spur. And at the top, the old mountaineering wisdom that small mountains often provide a particularly beautiful view is confirmed once again ..... The start is from the hotel in the direction of Dobbiaco and from there left in the direction of Cortina to Rif. Auronzo at the end of the "Three Peaks Road". For the approach, you have the choice between the south-facing route over the Paternsattel (2,454 m) and the little path that crosses the Lange Alm to the north of the Three Peaks. Both routes meet just below the Drei Zinnen hut (2,405 m). Now take the marked path to the left around the Sextner Stein (2,539 m) and climb to a meadow ridge ( 2,459 m) west below the Toblinger Knoten. A track leads via Schorfen to the entrance under the north face, where an alternative approach leads, which runs over the saddle between Sextner Stein and Toblinger Knoten. The ladder series begins on a scree terrace. You climb through the almost vertical chimney system to just below the saddle between the two summit peaks. Well-secured to the left and over two more ladders, finally very airy, to the highest point. The Feldkurat-Hosp trail runs down the steep but stepped rocks of the northeast flank; it is secured with wire ropes. Back to the Three Peaks Hut (2,405 m) and on one of the access paths to the left or right around the Three Peaks to the Rifugio Auronzo and from there back to the hotel in Sesto/Moos.
