"In no other place in the Alps do the peaks of a particular mountain group stand out as directly and completely as the peaks of the Sesto Dolomites do here, at the same time so clear and well-arranged that before you actually step on them, you can already walk through them with your eyes, so to speak." What Karl Springenschmid wrote a few decades ago is still valid today, only the way to the magnificent view has become much shorter in the meantime: The cable car takes you up to the timberline in a few minutes, and a good hour later you are standing on the summit, the parade of the Sesto Dolomites in front of you and the Hohe Tauern with Großvenediger and Großglockner behind you. What a show! The start is directly on foot from the hotel to the mountain station of the Helmbahn cable car (2041 m) in Sesto. There a sandy road leads in a pleasant gradient to the Hahnspielhütte (2150 m) and in a wide curve out to the south-west ridge of the Helm. Here turn left and zigzag along the rugged ridge directly to the Helm summit (2434 m) with the former customs house and a great panorama. The path along the border ridge to the Sillianer Hütte (2447 m) and on to the Hornischegg (2550 m) is also easy to see, mostly on the "Karnischen Höhenweg". In the Karmulde to the east below the summit are the tiny Hollbruck lakes. The descent first leads eastwards down into the ridge depression (2483 m) between Hornischegg and Hollbrucker Spitze (2581 m). Traverse it to the signposted turnoff into the Klammbach valley: in a wide right-hand loop downhill and over the partly grassy, partly rugged southern flank of the Hornischegg - finally over a few loops - down to the Klammbachalm (1944 m). From the snack station, first flat, then descending into the ditch of the Kampenbach, where you meet a road. It leads over the Negerdörfl (1705 m) in two hairpin bends down to the former Mitterberg fortress (1550 m) and the Panorama inn. Finally on a path diagonally downhill to Sesto (1316 m). Through the village to the Helmbahn car park and back to Moos to the hotel.
